Housing: Disney College Program
Hey y'all! Today I'm just going to briefly talk about my experience living in Disney Housing! Over the course of my two programs, I lived in Chatham Square, Vista Way, and Patterson Court. I won't talk about The Commons because I didn't live there, and I won't go too in depth, I'm just giving you my overall HONEST thoughts on each housing complex that I lived in!
Chatham Square 3.5/5
On my first program in 2015, I ended up in a 2-bedroom, 6-person apartment in Chatham Square. Each room had a trundle bed with storage underneath as well as a bunk bed with room under the bottom bunk, a dresser with six drawers and two night stands with two drawers each (we had hoped for 3 bedrooms to avoid the bunk bed situation, but this was the next best thing). My room had a walk-in closet and then a separate bathroom with a tub and shower, while the other room had their closet inside their bathroom which definitely got in their way of getting ready when they all needed to at the same time, but that just depends on your level of comfort doing bathroom stuff or getting dressed around other people. We lucked out with our kitchen and had two fridges, so each room took their own fridge (ours was in a closet for some reason so we labeled it the Bitchin Kitchen).
I liked Chatham a lot, I didn't bring a car so the fact that it was a bus hub was so convenient. I liked that their computer room and the gym were open 24 hours, but they were both very small. Our building was also pretty close to the water so a lot of creatures ended up getting in, gross!
Vista Way 1/5
On my second program, I registered for housing very late in the game so I ended up going random and I was placed in a 2-bedroom, 4-person apartment in Vista Way. I didn't bring a car for either program and Vista is the main bus hub, and my apartment was pretty close to the buses so that was nice. When I got there, there were only 2 girls living in it and they were both very sweet, but the kitchen barely had room for their food, let alone mine.
The apartment was not in great shape, the oven was very old and had a lot of gunk crusted over the bottom. Our tub would immediately fill up when you took a shower, and all the nasty tub stuff would fill up with it which we called them about (several times) but I ended up just buying a $4 bottle of draino and taking care of it myself. My bedroom overlooked the basketball court which has FLOOD LIGHTS that would beam into my window. The girl before me had hung up blankets and left them but it didn't really help. People would also play basketball until all hours of the night, even after the lights were turned off, it was super obnoxious.
(Check-In Day, I lived in Building 20 in Vista Way)
Patterson Court 5/5
You are allowed to apply for a voluntary relocation which costs $100 and is taken out of your paycheck if approved. I became very close with my most recent roommate Kaylee and when two of her roommates moved to The Commons, I went to my service center and requested to move in with her in Patterson Court.
**Disclaimer: I didn't just move because I made a friend, I was very unhappy with my apartment in Vista and my roommate began having people over later and later, they would cook strong smelling food until all hours of the night; unless you really don't care about losing the money, I wouldn't put in the request just to move in with a friend, it's a nice option for people that are having roommate issues.
In Patterson Court, I was in a 3-bedroom, 6-person apartment. Patterson Court is pretty new, so the kitchen was updated and nice, and the bathrooms and bedrooms were very clean. My apartment actually had hidden Mickey carpet from the Contemporary Resort!! I was so happy it was 3 bedrooms as well, so I had my own bed and the rooms themselves are pretty spacious. This complex even looks the nicest from the outside in my opinion, and it's only a 5-minute walk from Chatham Square if you need to take the bus.
